Get ready for our OPEN DAY on Saturday June 28th 1pm – 4pm, a chance for all the family to enjoy a free afternoon outing. You’ll find information and activity stalls on Pond Life, Butterfly Spotting, Life of a Beehive, Children’s Bug Hunt, Plants for Pollinators and Hedgehog Corner.
Great News – our Disability Access Path is finished and open for visitors who use a wheelchair, mobility scooter or walking aid. So please spread the word, and encourage people to come along with family or friends. We have space for up to 3 wheelchair users at the same time.
On your wheelchair journey across the garden, there is plenty to look out for at this time of year. Shocking-pink Oxalis brightens the driveway, and soon the scent of Mock Orange will greet you by the inner gates. Turning right by the Hazel copse towards the Herb garden, you’ll find the bright yellow buds of Broom, with Marjoram and Lavender getting ready to flower.
The path turns left by a large Elderberry tree smothered with white frothy flowers. Here you can see across the rough grassland – where butterfly and moth pupae are waiting to emerge. Already we have spotted Cinnabar moths this season, although the Ragwort has yet to flower and is rather scarce this year, as last summer the Cinnabar moth caterpillars ravaged the seedlings.
Down the meadow path, and another left turn brings you to your destination by the pond, with space to relax and take in the view across the garden. Returning by the same route, you get a different view of the garden, and at the entrance area you may catch a glimpse of our Beehive.
Our usual opening hours are Wednesdays and Fridays 10am to 12 noon, and 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, 10am to 12 noon. For more information, email [email protected], phone 01903 530780 (after 4pm), or check out our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/cortisavewildlife/
You’ll find us at Cortis Avenue (north end) off Carnegie Road, Broadwater, Worthing, BN14 7BG. Buses to Bohunt School/Broadwater Church. Street Parking. Children welcome accompanied by an adult. To protect plants and wildlife, sorry no dogs except assistance dogs.
We look forward to seeing you over the summer.
