TTW & CREW Transport Group along with other local groups have campaigned for the widening of Goring seafront path, the Council now have plans. This is a Worthing Borough Council project. Here is the link to their press release. https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/news/pr25-057.html
The proposal is for a 3m wide shared use path without any separation. The design guidelines and rationale for no separation can be found in the DfT Cycle Infrastructure design guide LTN1/20 (6.5 page 67). “This form of separation (white lines) is not well observed, and pedestrians walking on or crossing the cycle side can encounter greater conflict than with unsegregated facilities due to the increased cycling speeds that can result from the designation.”

This true shared space would also help improve accessibility by making the path more usable for those in wheelchairs or pushing buggies etc. It is currently too narrow in places to pass.
The council will help to attract funding from Active Travel England to implement this project. To get to that stage we need to get a very positive response to the consultation.
Please complete and if you can strongly support the proposal. This ideally would include taking the widened path past Sea Lane café to slope down and join the road at the roundabout. This would also provide a more accessible route onto the promenade for wheelchair users. The consultation ends 21st September 2025.
